A Leader and Responsibility to Larger Community
From the journal in module seven, I noted that leaders have a power of influence and their moods and the manner in which they deal with situations have a great impact on those people surrounding them which can be either good or bad (Reed,2011). This compares with my responsibility to the larger community of empowering and inspiring people to reach great heights of success and performance in the community through the power that I possess. How I use this power, for instance, through integrity, listening to people’s problems, the feedback I provide to the problems facing them, determines whether they will become better or worse (Emery et al., 2007). Also, by a leader focusing on improving the community that his or her organization is located determines how productive the organization will be (Brainerd, Campbell and Davis, 2013). This compares to my responsibility of ensuring the community is doing good without first thinking about my interest that benefits me.
However, a leader can use the power he or she has within an organization to help the larger community. This through using their influence and connections as a means of motivating a direct action such as creating a foundation or setting aside money earmarked for charitable giving as well as sponsoring fundraising events within the community (Dugan, 2006). However, the ethical dilemma that can result from this action is whether taking this action will have returning benefit to the organization, thus, getting confused on whether it is right or wrong to take the action. Despite that creating a good relationship between an organization and the community is beneficial to the organization, it is hard to tell to what margin will what the organization has used in the community will bring back to the organization. Therefore, leaders might be faced with a dilemma on whether to risk the organization resources to help the community for positive feedback or whether it will have fewer benefits than their expectations.
