The licensed practice and registered nurses (LPN and RN) do more or less the same job. Most obvious, however, is that the senior squads of RNs have a higher professional qualification compared to the LPNs, which is why the latter recommend providing patients with medical care without close monitoring. In her article LPN to RN you can do it !, Suzette M. Renfrowem emphasizes the need for the LPN to advance its education to earn a degree in RN. This article therefore highlights the differences between RN and LPN and the privileges of the former.

Unlike RNs, LPNs are only allowed to administer medications that manage direct patient care in a hospital, home clinic or nursing home, or simply work in a doctor’s office. In addition, their work schedules are full and the health programs in which they work are extremely inflexible as they provide mostly direct medical care to patients in the medical facilities. The nature of the restriction is attributed to their elementary medical education in primary care. Most notably, this is not the case with RNs. Higher-level nurses have a wide range of health programs to choose from, depending on what they consider excellent, their careers and their schedule.

Most importantly, RNs have the freedom to control their careers, not the LPNs. An RN has the ability to select a particular population to serve. You can choose from the fields of pediatrics, geriatrics, diabetics, transplantation, mentally retarded rehabilitation and IV therapy. A well-trained nurse can act as a lawyer for patients, a legal advisor, a parish nurse and, among other things, a medical researcher. Due to the size of the field, employment opportunities are appropriate. The ability to control one’s career has been increased by the lack of RNs.

Likewise, the salaries of RNs are slightly higher than those of LPNs. Those who hold an Advanced Nursing Diploma (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and work as clinical specialists or senior nurses earn approximately $ 76,209 or $ 167,387, respectively, a positive reward that enhances their lifestyle. On the other hand, LPNs in different states earn an average salary of around $ 31,530. The LPNs are also cut off from many job privileges, which motivates them to become RN through higher education.

Apart from the excessive privileges that they are entitled to, RNs enjoy a great deal of respect and appreciation compared to their nursing LPNs (Suzette, 2007). Given that they perform certain tasks that do not practice LPNs in practice, RNs have unlimited employment opportunities in all states of the United States of America (Harrington & Terry, 2009). In addition to job security in the nursing profession, RNs are the potential sole beneficiaries of the grants and grants approved by the federal government to fund the training of nursing staff in the nursing care career. Unfortunately, LPNs are not eligible for such grants unless they have a status similar to RN.

In summary, there are clear differences between RNs and LPNs in terms of privileges, professional achievements, professional qualifications and the extent of their nursing activities. Switching from LPN to RN requires a long-term plan, experience and hard work, as illustrated by Suzette. It’s about working, training and caring for the family at the same time.
