Part 1
Choose two theories that interest/intrigue you from the chapter for this week. For each theory, briefly explain the theory and its main concepts. How is each theory different/distinct from the other as it pertains to understanding “the message”? (1 paragraph per theory.) For each theory, address theory-relevant assumptions (axiology, ontology, epistemology), goals, and one limitation. (250-300 words – 150 words per theory).
For each of the two theories you address (in Discussion Question #1), add the following to your metaphor map:
a. Label the heading, “Message Theories”
b. Name of theory
c. Create a 2-4 sentence metaphor that explains/compares the theory to another theory in the chapter.
d. Create a 2-4 sentence metaphor that explains/compares the theory to something non-academic (e.g., experience, object, nature) for a non-academic audience..
Part 2
Choose one of your two theories to put into application practice. First, choose a communication experience, event, interaction, artifact, etc. to address. Briefly explain this communication experience. Second, use this theory and its corresponding terminology to make sense of this communication phenomenon. Be sure to make two claims as to what can be revealed/seen using the theory as the framework of analysis. (150-200 words).
